Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC)
LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) is language training for newcomers to Canada. The LINC program offers Literacy (basic) through to Level 7 (advance) classes. Childminding is available for children 1.5 to 5 years of age for parents attending classes.
What can LINC teach?
LINC training helps students learn basic to advanced language skills that will be useful in their everyday lives. For instance, they can learn: the alphabet and numeric systems; how to ask for directions; how to talk to their child´s teacher or their own teacher; how to explain their health concerns to the doctor, make an appointment; learn grammar instruction, how to prepare for Post Secondary Education and the Canadian work culture, TOEFL preparation, employment readiness and the ability to communicate in other situations.
How long does LINC last?
The sessions are twelve weeks long and we offer four twelve week sessions per year. Clients progress at their own pace.
Where are LINC classes held?
LINC classes are held at the MCC East End Office (the only east end LINC Program) located at 7651 Tecumseh Road East, 2nd Floor, Windsor. Currently we offer classes Monday through Thursday from either 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (full-time program) or 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. (part-time program)
We offer Pronunciation and Conversation classes every Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. No childminding is offered for these classes.
Summer Camp is offered to children from 6 -13 years of age during July and August for parents attending classes Monday to Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Why choose LINC?
LINC is valuable because it helps newcomers to settle and integrate into their new community.
It helps to enhance the newcomer´s communication skills; an invaluable asset learned both in the classroom and in the language lab.
It provides frequent guest speakers and field trips as well as regular instruction so that newcomers can be effectively familiarized with their new Canadian society.
