INTERPRETERS
Our Language Services department has opening for free lance Interpreters to assist our clients with translation and interpretation in an accurate, prompt, confidential and professional environment, in accordance with the mission and vision of the MCC.
To become an Interpreter at the Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County
it is necessary to take a language test (ILSAT) which is offered onsite.
The test is oral and the duration is maximum two hours in length. The cost is $200.00
and we accept debit, credit or cash. To receive detailed information about the test a flyer is available at the reception area of the MCC.
To schedule a test please call our Language Services Coordinator.
If you successfully pass the test, you many apply to enroll in the Interpreter program delivered at St. Clair College.
Qualifications:
- Fluency in English and another language
- Must be able to read, write and speak in both languages
- Must be articulate
- Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills
- A post secondary school education
- Must have a valid Police clearance certificate

LANGUAGE INSTRUCTION FOR NEWCOMERS TO CANADA (LINC)INSTRUCTOR (SUPPLY)
REPORTS TO: LINC Program Manager or LINC Co-ordinator
POSITION SUMMARY:
The LINC Instructor will deliver the prepared lesson plan or be responsible for preparing and delivering the MCC’s Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada program as funded by Citizenship and Immigration.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- Deliver prepared instructional material or prepare daily instructional material and submit them to the program manager on a daily or weekly basis.
- Assess and document student progress and attendance. Develop activities to assess student’s progress based on the LINC outcomes and the CLB for the LINC level.
- Utilise the existing curriculum for the development of lessons and resources available in the LINC library.
- Administer curriculum guidelines according to CLBA. Description levels, provincial guidelines and needs and interests of class.
- Implement orientation/integration materials that can assist students in their integration into the Canadian society.
- Ensure that students have been referred by administration
- Submit on a daily or weekly basis copy of the attendance, lesson plans.
- Submit at the end of each 12-week session the proficiency checklists for all students that meet the CLBA requirements – if you are doing a long term supply
- Graduate students as required
- Report on a daily basis students who have been dropped
- Document students absences and reasons on a daily basis
- Follow the guidelines described in the LINC manual.
- Participate in outreaching activities a minimum of 2 times per year
- Participate in graduation ceremonies and other end of session activities.
- Sign out all materials from the LINC library
- Sign in all materials returned to the LINC library
- Call the program manager or co-ordinator if unable to come to work
- Ensure that lesson plans are at the teaching location 15 minutes prior to class
- Provide administration with all the requested information.
- Attend all scheduled meetings
- Attend all professional Development activities
- Follow all the procedures outlined in the LINC Manual
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The LINC Instructor will have the demonstrated ability to work independently, will be sensitive to the needs of adult LINC learners, and will have awareness of the multicultural community and cross cultural issues. Experience and/or appropriate background in teaching multi-level language classes, and the ability to work on a part-time contract basis according to assignment are also necessary.
The LINC Instructor must be TESL Ontario certified. Preference will be given to applicants holding a Bachelor of Education and ESL qualifications. Administrative, planning, written/oral communication and computer skills are essential.

Rate of pay: $33.14/hr. based on LINC Proposal (supply rate is $21.65/hr. if lesson plan is provided)
