The term ‘volunteer’ refers to an individual who offers his/her time, energy and a skill by his/her own free will and therefore does not receive monetary remuneration.
Volunteers are an essential component of the MCC. A volunteer Board of Directors that oversees all operations of the Multicultural Council governs the MCC. Furthermore, volunteer board members are part various committees that deal with specific issues faced by the agency. Our volunteer directors develop the policies that govern the organization, the strategic plan that is implemented by the staff, and they evaluate the effectiveness of the programs offered by the agency.
Volunteers play a key role in our provision of services to immigrants and refugees. Volunteers also include student placements. Volunteers may be actively involved in some of our programs, such as the HOST Program, the Newcomer Settlement Program, or the Windsor Resettlement Assistance Program. How actively involved a volunteer wants to be is determined by the volunteer himself/herself.
Volunteers also participate in other activities at MCC, such as our ethnic festivals Carrousel of the Nations and Carrousel by the River, writing for the Gazette our newsletter, assisting with fundraising, and in anti-racism and educational activities. Volunteers may also assist the MCC in clerical duties.
