POSITION:                   Gender-Based Violence Support Worker
PROGRAM:                  Hub Without Walls (HWoW)
REPORTS TO:              Program Manager      
JOB TYPE:                    Full Time (40 hours/week) until March 31st, 2026
SALARY:                       $ 25.00/hr. + Benefits

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Multicultural Council of Windsor and Essex County (MCC) is looking for a dedicated and passionate Gender-Based Violence Support Worker to join the Hub Without Walls (HWoW) initiative. In this role, you will provide trauma-informed support to newcomer survivors of GBV while helping host agencies strengthen their capacity to identify and respond to these issues. As a trusted connector, you will offer early support, coordinate referrals, and contribute to prevention, education, and capacity-building efforts across the community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and deliver educational outreach, information sessions, and workshops focused on GBV prevention, healthy relationships, safety, and access to support for newcomers.
  • Provide safe, low-barrier, trauma-informed support to newcomer survivors of GBV.
  • Act as a trusted point of contact, offering guidance and warm referrals to appropriate services.
  • Support early identification of GBV and respond in ways that are respectful, trauma-informed, and supportive of newcomers.
  • Strengthen awareness and confidence within host agencies through training, knowledge sharing, and capacity-building efforts, helping staff respond effectively to newcomers impacted by GBV.
  • Collaborate closely with HWoW team members and across settlement, employment, language, and community programs to ensure coordinated care for newcomers.
  • Attend community events and engage with local partners to raise awareness of GBV prevention and support services.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of support provided, outreach activities, and program metrics.
  • Participate in professional development, team meetings, and training opportunities to enhance knowledge and program effectiveness.
  • Uphold confidentiality, ethical standards, and MCC’s commitment to equity and inclusion.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree preferred in social work, psychology, social sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience in community outreach, program facilitation, or public education.
  • Strong understanding of gender-based violence, trauma-informed approaches, and newcomer-specific considerations.
  • Experience working with diverse and vulnerable populations, including newcomers.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to speak multiple languages is an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and creating outreach/educational materials.
  • Knowledge of local community resources, GBV services, and referral pathways.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, anti-oppression practices, and trauma-informed programming.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are preferred.
  • Valid vulnerable sector police clearance required.
